Weekend Intensive with Ty Landrum „THE SUBTLE BREATH“
TY LANDRUM WILL BE BACK AT WAHRHAFTYOGA!
WEEKEND INTENSIVE „THE SUBTLE BREATH“ with Ty Landrum
Graz | March 31 – April 2, 2023
In the practice of yoga, we work with opposing forces of breath. We gather them lightly into the base of the pelvis and we draw them upward along the spine. As the breath ascends, it touches psychical tangles that limit our experience, releasing old fragments of memory into the space of our minds, and inviting us to hold them with loving awareness. Through this practice, we connect to our noble nature and we expose ourselves to the possibility of insight.
In this weekend intensive, we explore the simple but potent techniques that bring this practice alive—tracing internal currents of breath, balancing patterns of sensation, and moving our bodies from the inside. Most pointedly, we learn to work more intelligently with our subtle breath, so it can help us unravel us from the inside.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
FRIDAY
THE FIVE PRANAS (5:30 PM – 7:30 PM) WORKSHOP
This session will explore the role of the five pranas in the process of deep breathing. We will see how to use Surya Namaskar to excite the natural movements of the pranas, and to invite deeper psychical release. This session will give you a whole new perspective on the internal dynamics of this breath-based yoga practice. This session will be a mix of philosophy, somatic exploration and very light practice.
SATURDAY
MYSORE (8 – 10:30 AM)
This is a traditional Mysore-style Ashtanga Vinyasa class. We practice together, mostly in silence, following the natural cadence of our breath, and the brilliant sequencing of the Ashtanga system. This is an opportunity for individual attention and support. This is not a guided class, so you must know your own sequencing to attend. Ashtanga Vinyasa will be the predominant style, but other Vinyasa-Krama styles are welcome.
We´ll let you know shortly before the weekend when you can start your practice as we won´t start all at the same time, therefore the 2,5hrs time frame.
PRANAYAMA AND GUIDED MEDITATION (11:00 AM -12:00 AM)
Pranayama is the practice of giving space to the breath. When the movements of the breath merge together, they reveal a perfect continuity. They suspend the mind in the liminal space between creativity and emptiness. This session involves a guided practice of pranayama and somatic visualization to awaken the breath, and taste the sweetness that lies beneath.
UNDULATIONS OF SUBTLE BREATH (01:00- 03:00 PM) WORKSHOP
As the apanic force is lifted from the pelvis to the heart, the pranic force expands into its natural fulness, and this movement creates a distinctive undulating pattern through the spine. In this session, we learn to follow that pattern through asanas of all kinds, including standing postures, folds, twists, and back bends. By working with this pattern, we imbue our asana practices with greater depth and vibrancy. This session will involve some light and accessible asana practice, together with subtle body visualization.
SUNDAY
MYSORE (08:00 – 10:30 AM)
This is a traditional Mysore-style Ashtanga Vinyasa class. We practice together, mostly in silence, following the natural cadence of our breath, and the brilliant sequencing of the Ashtanga system. This is an opportunity for individual attention and support. This is not a guided class, so you must know your own sequencing to attend. Ashtanga Vinyasa will be the predominant style, but other Vinyasa-Krama styles are welcome.
We´ll let you know shortly before the weekend when you can start your practice as we won´t start all at the same time, therefore the 2,5hrs time frame.
MULA BANDHA (11:30 -13:30 PM) WORKSHOP
Some say that mula bandha is the toning of the pelvic floor. Other say that mula bandha is the experience of non-duality. Still others say that mula bandha is the awakening of the feminine sublime. What do these disparate things have in common? This workshop aims to clarify. Observing the subtle breath within our bodies, we discover a thread of sensation that reaches from the pelvic floor to the soft palate, a thread that connects us to the primitive source of our vitality. By awakening our appreciation for where that thread leads, we invite some of the finer experiences of yoga to arise. This session will involve some light and accessible asana practice, together with subtle body visualization.
PHILOSOPHY TALK: THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS (02:00 – 3:00 PM)
The four noble truths are one of the foundational teachings of Buddhism, and they are reiterated clearly in the Yoga Sutras as well. They tell us that we suffer from a certain delusion about who we are, one that obscures our true nature, and that we can overcome this delusion by contemplating the inner workings of our minds. In this session, we identify the function of mind responsible for this delusion, and we consider how to hold it into our own awareness, both in yogic practice and ordinary life.
WHO can join classes & workshops?
- Mysore Style classes: These classes are intended for people with an established Ashtanga practice (beginners are welcome but you should be able to practice alone!) and other Vinyasa-Krama styles are also very welcome. It´s not a led class, so you most know your own sequence.
